USANA

About USANA

USANA manufactures the highest-rated, most effective nutritional supplements and health care products in the world. Our products are the best money can buy.

We offer our products to customers through a process called direct selling. Direct selling is a little different. It’s not the status quo. It’s not how people are used to buying what they want—after all, wouldn’t it be easier if you could just pick our products up at the grocery store? Yeah, we get that a lot.

Here’s why we do what we do. We didn’t just want to give you the opportunity to take the best wellness products in the world. We wanted to give you the opportunity to make your life the best it can be. And this includes having physical health as well as financial health, so you can buy what all of us really want: freedom to do what we want, when we want.

So yes, it’s different. But here’s the best part. USANA understands direct selling just as much as it understands nutritionals. Which is, we get it. In fact, we’re the best at what we do, and we can prove it. We win awards for our products, and we win awards for our business opportunity.

Our focus on personalization—in our product line and with owning a USANA business—allows you to think about your personal choices in life and how your everyday behaviors have an impact on your overall quality of life. Your Health. Your Life. Your Way.

High-Quality Manufacturing

USANA’s founder, Myron Wentz, Ph.D., created this science-based company because he had a vision of a world free from pain and suffering. A world free from disease.

And he knew science and high-quality manufacturing could help him bring his vision to life.

That’s why our commitment to quality goes beyond the formulas we create.

We manufacture more than 90 percent of our products in our own manufacturing facilities so we can control the entire process, from raw ingredient to finished supplement. John Cuomo, Ph.D., USANA’s executive director of product development and technology, explains, “The main reason to manufacture our products in-house is so we can control the process at every step. This is our house. This is our business. And nobody else is going to take care of it if we don’t.”

In addition to our own high standards of manufacturing, a variety of government agencies conduct periodic inspections of our facilities, requiring strict control of procedures and documentation. Our Salt Lake City, Utah, facility is certified to be in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) requirements set forth in NSF/ANSI Standard 173-2012, Dietary Supplements by NSF International, and it also became a registered U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Drug Establishment in 2011.

As such, all components of the manufacturing process are evaluated and inspected by the same FDA standards as are used for pharmaceutical products.

Additionally, in several countries around the world, supplements are more highly regulated than in the United States. In Australia, for example, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) mandates that manufacturers follow a set of GMP identical to pharmaceutical GMP in the United States. As an Australian supplier, USANA is regularly inspected and audited by the TGA to ensure that their GMP standards are met.

USANA - At the Top of Our Game

Athletes are always breaking records and pushing boundaries. They work hard. They train hard. They eat, sleep, and drink to win. Proper nutrition is vital, so it’s no wonder more than 700 world-class athletes—including the United States Ski and Snowboarding Association and the Women’s Tennis Association—rely on USANA supplements to keep them in top shape. They know the safety and quality of each USANA product is guaranteed. Can any other supplement company say the same? Didn’t think so.

Meet The Founder

Dr. Myron Wentz, internationally recognized microbiologist, immunologist, and pioneer in the development of human cell culture technology and infectious disease diagnoses, holds a bachelor's degree in biology from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, a master's degree in microbiology from the University of North Dakota, and a Ph.D. in microbiology and immunology from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.
Dr. Wentz launched Gull Laboratories as a one-man operation in 1974. By June of 1977, several of his viral diagnostic assays were FDA-approved and ready for marketing to hospitals and clinical laboratories. He developed the first commercially available test for diagnosing infection with the Epstein-Barr virus. Dr. Wentz sold his controlling interests in Gull Laboratories in 1992 and founded USANA Health Sciences, a state-of-the-art manufacturer of nutritional supplements, foods, and personal-care products.

In addition to Gull Laboratories and USANA Health Sciences, Dr. Wentz created Sanoviv Medical Institute, a holistic medical facility with full hospital accreditation located in Baja California. In recent years Dr. Wentz has turned his attention to charitable and humanitarian concerns, founding the Wentz Medical Centre and Laboratory in Uganda and the Wentz Medical Centre in Cambodia to serve children in those countries orphaned by diseases such as malaria and HIV.

"I dream of a world free from pain and suffering. I dream of a world free from disease. The USANA family will be the healthiest family on earth. Share my vision. Love life and live it to its fullest in happiness and health."

The Science Behind USANA

USANA and science—they were made for each other. That’s why we have a team of in-house experts and scientists dedicated to incorporating knowledge from the latest scientific finding and clinical studies into our products. To stay on the cutting edge, we also partner with renowned research institutions and nutritional experts and consult with our Scientific Advisory Council—a group of independent healthcare professionals dedicated to ensuring we create the best products possible.

“At USANA, scientific research is at the heart of every product we offer. Whether in studies conducted by top scientists in our on-site laboratories, or findings from the many research partnerships we have across the globe, USANA is fully committed to the research and development of cutting-edge nutritional technology.

And, of course, our state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities ensure that each product we create is made with the same high quality that set us apart from others in the past and will allow us to lead the field in the future.”

Dr. Myron Wentz

Founder and Chairman, USANA Health Sciences
USANA’s Scientific Experts

USANA’s world-class scientists review the latest scientific literature and clinical studies on important nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals. They also test the potency and purity of every USANA product to ensure complete and balanced formulas. USANA scientists come from varying fields of expertise, and most have published numerous papers in their careers.
John Cuomo, Ph.D.
Executive Director of Product Development and Technology
Dr. John Cuomo’s experience in synthetic organic chemistry, manufacturing, and analytical methods make his contribution to USANA invaluable. He holds over 20 United States and European patents and is the author of numerous scientific papers. "There are several areas that I think set USANA apart from other nutritional companies," Dr. Cuomo says. "The first is USANA's quality assurance in product development and manufacturing. Few companies have the level of quality control that USANA does. We spend a tremendous amount of time and money making sure that product composition exactly matches what's on the label. One of the ways we do that is through our in-house testing of ingredient potency."

Dr. Cuomo has seen many other companies include product lines solely based on the marketability of the products. "We won't jump on the bandwagon to join the latest health craze simply to make a profit."
Mark Brown, Ph.D.
Director of Product Development

Dr. Mark Brown has completed extensive research in bioorganic chemistry and holds a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of California and a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from California State University, Chico. With more than 15 years of chemistry experience, he is a valuable member of USANA’s scientific team.

 Brian Dixon, Ph.D.
Executive Director of Health and Science Education

Dr. Brian Dixon joined USANA’s department of research and development in January of 2009. As an integral member of USANA’s scientific staff, Dr. Dixon’s main role was to facilitate and manage all human clinical studies conducted at, and funded by, USANA. In November of 2014, Dr. Dixon was asked to head up the newly formed department of health and science education as its executive director, where he continues to lecture internationally on the importance of nutrition for optimal health.

Dr. Dixon earned his PhD in molecular and cellular biology from Oregon State University, where he focused his research on the underlying biochemical mechanisms of the aging process and the therapeutic potential of R-alpha lipoic acid.
